WHAT: Rally to stop mass sackings at Liverpool Council

WHEN: 4.30pm - 6pm Tuesday 12 May

WHERE: Liverpool Civic Place

WHY:

Liverpool Council’s secret plan for mass execution of workers tonight

Liverpool Council will terminate two in ten of its workers at an extraordinary general meeting at 6pm tonight with some departments being abolished altogether.

Libraries, parks and roads in Liverpool are expected to be immediately affected by the mass sackings

600 people work at the council and it’s expected 140 people will be axed.

Workers at the council are calling on Liverpool ratepayers to join them at an emergency 4.30pm rally this afternoon to let councillors know they don’t approve the mass culling of staff.

Steve Donley from the United Services Union, which represents council workers, said the community needs to rally this afternoon because tomorrow it will be too late.

“If you value rhyme time at your local library, bring you toddlers down to defend it this afternoon, if your kids play soccer on Saturdays bring them down after school, if you’re a builder and you need you DA’s done in a timely fashion bring your tradie mates along,” said Mr Donley.

“Last time Ned Mannoun’s council tried to cut 140 jobs it was only stopped because the CEO refused to do it on principle, but this CEO seems to be happy to do as he’s told.

“It’s going to be a busy day at Centrelink Liverpool if this gets up I can tell you.

“Four departments are losing all their staff, only the office of the CEO is expected to receive more funds, he’s getting another $200,000 to play with, that’s on top of his $500,000+ salary.

“Council plans to decimate the development application department, and the land development team, that’s madness when we’re trying to get as many homes built as we can during a housing crisis.

“We really need ratepayers to join us at 4.30pm today otherwise you might turn up to rhyme time at the local library to find yellow tape blocking access to the carpet squares, you might turn up to play soccer this Saturday and find no lines marked, you might be waiting years for a DA approval.”
