$22 Aussie Wine Crowned in Major US Competition

Taylors Wines Estate Cabernet Sauvignon claims international trophy after unstoppable award-winning streak

CLARE VALLEY, SOUTH AUSTRALIA – A $22 bottle of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon has triumphed on the international stage, taking home a prestigious Best of Class Trophy at the 2025 East Meets West Competition in California, USA. The victory for the 2023 Taylors Estate Cabernet Sauvignon confirms that world-class quality is achievable at a price accessible to everyone.

“We started our winery to craft Australian wines equal to world's best,” says Mitchell Taylor, Chairman at Taylors Wines. “This run of international success proves we're not just matching global standards, we’re setting them and doing it at a price that puts world-class wine within everyone's reach. It's fantastic that our Estate Cabernet, our very first wine released back in 1973, is still winning major international awards over 50 years later.”

The win for the 2023 Taylors Estate Cabernet Sauvignon caps a remarkable three-month run of international success, claiming gold medals at major competitions around the world:

  • Best of Class Trophy and Gold Medal – East Meets West Competition (USA)
  • Gold Medal – International Wine & Spirits Awards (Spain)
  • Gold Medal – VINUS International Wine and Spirits Competition (Argentina)
  • Gold Medal – Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards (South Africa)
  • Gold Medal – USA Wine Ratings

As consumers continue to navigate cost-of-living pressures, this win shows that a great wine doesn't have to be a luxury purchase. The 2023 Taylors Estate Cabernet Sauvignon provides a celebrated, world-class option at a truly accessible price point of $22, making it an ideal choice for the upcoming entertaining and festive season.

The success also reflects strong global demand for Australian Cabernet Sauvignon. According to Wine Australia1, the value of Australian Cabernet exports grew 21% in the 12 months to June 2025 to reach $537 million, driven by demand in key markets including China, Canada, and the UK. Domestically, mid-priced red wines between $15-$30, where Taylors Estate sits, continue to record steady growth as consumers seek premium quality to enjoy at home.

This win highlights both the exceptional quality of South Australian Cabernet Sauvignon and Taylors Wines’ long-standing mastery of the variety. This award-winning Estate drop is crafted from grapes grown in Clare Valley and Limestone Coast regions, revealing deep blackcurrant, spice, and eucalyptus aromas with hints of mint and violets. Gentle French oak maturation adds subtle cedar and dark chocolate notes, creating a wine that balances vibrant fruit with a silky, lingering finish.

The Estate Cabernet Sauvignon’s latest accolade received at the East Meets West Competition also marks the culmination of a highly successful week for Taylors Wines, which saw the winery win Best Australian Producer at the Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards in Germany, the Top International Wine Trophy for its 2023 Jaraman Shiraz at the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards, and the Best Vintage Section Shiraz trophy back home at the Clare Valley Wine Show for its 2024 Heritage Shiraz.
