47 YEARS OF SUMMER TRADITION: POWERCOR LORNE PIER TO PUB AND MOUNTAIN TO SURF RETURN IN 2027
Tide Communications
The Lorne Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC) is thrilled to welcome swimmers, runners and spectators back to the Great Ocean Road for the Powercor Lorne Pier to Pub and Mountain to Surf: two iconic events that bring the best of Lorne’s coastal community to life.
Taking place on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 January 2027, the weekend will bring more than 7,500 participants and 20,000 visitors to Lorne for two of Australia’s most beloved summer traditions. Both events will raise vital funds to support the lifesaving and beach safety efforts of Lorne Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC).
Held annually on the second weekend of January, the Powercor Lorne Pier to Pub and Mountain to Surf have become a fixture of the Australian summer, celebrating athletic challenge, camaraderie and community spirit.
2,500 runners are expected to take on the 8km Powercor Mountain to Surf on Friday, before over 5,000 swimmers line up for the 1.2km Powercor Lorne Pier to Pub, Australia’s largest open-water swim, the following day.
The 2027 event also marks a new chapter for the club, with Kate Eriksson stepping into the role of Lorne SLSC President and leading the club into its 47th Powercor Lorne Pier to Pub.
Last January, the 46th Powercor Lorne Pier to Pub welcomed more than 5,000 swimmers and delivered a moment of history. Olympic gold medallist Lani Pallister claimed her seventh consecutive women’s title in 12:50, becoming the most successful swimmer in the event’s history. In the men’s race, fellow Olympian Sam Short took top honours in 11:52, dethroning defending champion Nick Sloman. With the elite Superfish field expected to be just as competitive in 2027, all eyes will be on Lorne to see who claims the crown.
While the elite racing draws national attention, it’s the thousands of everyday swimmers and runners, from families and first-timers to decades-long regulars, who give the weekend its character. Led by Race Director and long-time competitor Peter Williamson, the events continue to bring people of all ages and abilities together to celebrate the Surf Coast.
Powercor returns for its eighth consecutive year as title partner, continuing its long-standing commitment to regional communities and volunteer lifesaving services across Victoria.
As volunteer-led events, the Powercor Lorne Pier to Pub and Mountain to Surf would not be possible without the dedication of the SLSC community and the ongoing support of key sponsors such as Powercor. All proceeds go directly to the Lorne SLSC to support water safety along the Surf Coast.
Entries for the 2027 Powercor Lorne Pier to Pub and Mountain to Surf open on Monday 2 November 2026, with participants of all ages and abilities invited to be part of this much-loved coastal tradition.

ABOUT LORNE SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB
Founded before WWII and re-established in 1947, Lorne Surf Life Saving Club is renowned for the Pier to Pub and Mountain to Surf events held annually. Located on the Great Ocean Road, the club overlooks the stunning Louttit Bay and has a proud history of surf lifesaving education, competition, volunteer engagement and patrolling. Volunteer patrollers, recognisable in their red and yellow uniforms, keep visitors safe on boards, boats and the sand. Members can become a lifesaver, join the Nippers or Inflatable Rescue Boat crew program, or compete across surfboat rowing, swimming, board and ski paddling and beach running. The progressive club was quick to embrace its women members following an amendment to National Council Policy in 1979/80, with women now making up almost half of its membership. In 2026 Lorne Surf Life Saving Club recorded 2700 members and 270 volunteer patrol members.
