AFL Legend Tom Hawkins Joins Emma Hawkins for Tour d'Horse 2026

The KIDS Foundation is delighted to announce the return of ambassador Emma Hawkins for Tour d’Horse 2026, the Foundation’s major annual fundraiser supporting children, young adults and families impacted by injury, trauma and life-changing illness. Supporting her this year is her husband, AFL legend Tom Hawkins, who will join the Tour d’Horse team in a hands-on volunteer role.

After riding in 2025, Emma returns to the saddle with a deepened connection to the work of the KIDS Foundation and a continued commitment to raising awareness and vital funds. Having seen that impact firsthand through Emma, Tom was inspired to get involved in 2026 and support the Foundation in a meaningful, on-the-ground role.

With shared roots in regional New South Wales, Emma and Tom both grew up in the Riverina, where a strong sense of community and connection to the land continues to shape their lives. For Emma, that includes a lifelong connection to horses, which underpins her involvement in Tour d’Horse today.

“Being part of Tour d’Horse last year was incredibly moving,” Emma said.

“The stories you hear, the people you meet, and the purpose behind every kilometre ridden stays with you. I’m so proud to be returning in 2026, and even more special to have Tom alongside me this year.”

Tom will be part of the Tour d’Horse team in a hands-on volunteer role and supporting event operations. This will include helping with the KIDS Foundation injury and trauma recovery camp which coincides with the ride, and spending time with the young people and families at the heart of the Foundation’s work, and no doubt a kick of the footy along the way.

“I’ve seen firsthand how powerful this experience is through Emma,” Tom said.

“What really stands out is the resilience of the kids and families, and the role the Foundation plays in helping them rebuild. To be part of something like this, even in a small way, is incredibly meaningful.”

Emma will join a community of riders from across the media, racing and equine industries for the six-day journey through the Upper Hunter Valley. United by a shared purpose, participants ride to honour survivors, raise vital funds and increase awareness for the KIDS Foundation’s recovery, resilience and prevention programs.

“Tour d’Horse is more than just a ride, it is a powerful reminder of what people can overcome, and what is possible when a community comes together. The KIDS Foundation changes lives, and I feel incredibly grateful to play even a small part in that,” Emma said.

Led by Founder and CEO Dr Susie O’Neill OAM, the KIDS Foundation has supported children, young adults and families for over 30 years through prevention education, rehabilitation and resilience-building programs.

“We are thrilled to welcome Emma back for 2026 and to have Tom join the Tour d’Horse team. Their support helps us continue to share these important stories and extend our reach to those who need it most,” said Dr Susie O’Neill.

Tour d’Horse 2026 will once again bring together leading voices from the racing and equestrian industries, alongside passionate supporters, to raise critical funds and awareness for the Foundation’s work.

Taking place from 11 to 17 May in the Upper Hunter Valley, the six-day ride features retired racehorses retrained for a second career by Antony “Anto” White OAM and Alec White of Belltrees, a powerful reflection of resilience, recovery and new beginnings, mirroring the journey of the young people supported by the Foundation.

With strong momentum building, Tour d’Horse 2026 continues to grow as one of Australia’s most unique and meaningful charity events.
