Anglicare Sydney CEO response to election housing committments

Anglicare Sydney

Simon Miller CEO of Anglicare Sydney has released a video today in response to the federal election housing policies announced this week by Labor and the Coalition:

Transcript:

"Simon Miller from Anglicare Sydney here. We're in the middle of a federal election campaign and there has been so much talk about housing.

"The housing policies that have been announced in the last few days, they're really focused on first home buyer and that's good news if you're looking to buy and you're struggling to put together the deposit that you need for a new home.

"But, we can't forget that there's a whole group of people who these policies have not been designed to help. There are people who are on income support or on minimum wages or are leaving situations of family and domestic violence, who are struggling to put a roof over their heads.

"We need to remember to be investing to support these Australians who are doing it really tough. That means more investment in safe and affordable housing, rental accommodation, working with organisations such as Anglicare to make sure that we can care for those people who can't afford to buy but need a safe roof over their head, for themselves and their kids.

"Because housing, at Anglicare we believe is a human right."
