ANGLICARE SYDNEY COMMENT ON MEAGRE INCREASE TO JOBSEEKER
Anglicare Sydney is disappointed in the meagre increase to JobSeeker announced today.
Anglicare Sydney has seen demand for its food and financial assistance services increase by 25% over the past year, illustrating how cost of living is pushing people to breaking point.
Simon Miller, CEO of Anglicare Sydney said just 0.2% of listed rentals in Sydney were affordable for those on income support and this below inflation increase would not make any meaningful impact.
“We’re calling on the Government to increase the rate of Job Seeker at least $80 a day to provide a genuine safety net for those in need,” said Mr Miller.
