The Leukaemia Foundation, together with The University of Western Australia (UWA), is inviting applications from outstanding leaders in blood cancer research for its inaugural Leukaemia Foundation Tony Fini Chair in Blood Cancer.

The prestigious position, first announced in October, was established thanks to a landmark $3 million investment, representing the largest single non-government investment in blood cancer research in Western Australia’s history.

The Chair is named for prominent WA philanthropist Mr Tony Fini whose family has generously supported the Leukaemia Foundation, through the Tony Fini Foundation, since 2010.

Leukaemia Foundation Head of Research Bill Stavreski said the position at UWA represented a unique opportunity to shape the future of blood cancer research in Australia and globally.

“The successful candidate will be an outstanding researcher in blood cancer, ready to lead an ambitious and internationally competitive program focused on prevention, early detection and diagnostics – areas traditionally underrepresented in blood cancer research,” he said.

"We are seeking an exceptional applicant committed to accelerating research that will help address crucial gaps in research and deliver meaningful impact for patients, families and communities affected by blood cancer now and into the future.”

The role is open to clinician researchers and laboratory-based researchers in discovery and translational research, including those focused on adult or paediatric populations.

The incumbent Chair will be responsible for leading a high-performing team, mentoring emerging researchers and strengthening strategic partnerships across the sector.

Applications are now open and will close at 11:55pm AWST on Sunday, 12 July 2026.

For more information about the role and to apply, visit the UWA careers website.
