Avocados Australia

All Central NSW avocado growers are invited to a grower regional forum in July.

Avocados are packed full of nutrition and offer many health benefits.* In 2023/24 Australian avocado growers produced 150,913 tonnes of avocados supplying all year round. Of this volume, Central NSW (CNSW) avocado growers produced 4%, 5,562 tonnes.** It has been a tough year so far for growers in the region given the severe weather events impacting some orchards. To support CNSW growers’ efforts this year, Avocados Australia and the National Avocado Extension project team are helping to deliver the Central NSW Avocado Grower Regional Forum happening on Thursday 3 July (8.30am to 3.00pm) at the Stuarts Point Community Hall (2A Ocean Avenue in Stuarts Point). An orchard walk will take place in the afternoon.

All of CNSW’s avocado growers, their orchard staff and packers are invited to attend this free event. Ian Tolson, Avocados Australia’s CNSW Director, will be present at the forum.

I look forward to meeting with growers and to hear about any concerns or feedback they may have,” said Ian Tolson.

The CNSW Avocado Grower Regional Forum is supported by Avocados Australia and delivered by the Hort Innovation funded Avocado industry development and extension project team (AV23010). The technical theme for the event is: Yield variability.

The forum will feature technical guest speakers such as Dr Harley Smith (CSIRO) who is speaking on flowering and fruit set, Dr Everard Edwards (CSIRO) on carbohydrates, and Dr John Wilkie (Wilkie Horticulture) on factors of yield variability and light interception. Importantly, a NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (NSW DPI) response support representative will be present to assist growers needing to access disaster assistance and support services.

“Technical content for the forum has been developed with direct input from CNSW growers through the project’s dedicated CNSW regional lead, Isabella Ellmers,” said Bridie Carr, Senior Extension Horticulturist at Department of Primary Industries, Queensland.

John Tyas, CEO of Avocados Australia, will be attending and presenting an Industry Update at the forum. He recommends that all avocado growers attend this event as it will provide useful information, advice and resources.

Events like these provide growers with the chance to fact find and source the best information to help them improve their businesses,” said John Tyas.

About Australian Avocados - https://www.australianavocados.com.au/
A single serve of avocado (½ a medium avocado or 75g) contains healthy fats, fibre, B vitamins and potassium. Given that avocado also boosts the nutrition of other healthy foods it should be an essential item on everyone’s shopping list every day, and used in every meal.
