Thirty of the best bull riders from across Australia and the world will converge on Townsville to go head-to-head for Australia’s most prestigious buckle and $150,000 in prize money. While Saturday night is sold out, Finals Friday promises a spectacular night of rides, with organisers urging fans to secure tickets now.
Last year’s PBR Australia Grand Finals didn’t just deliver edge-of-your-seat action, it generated a serious boost to the Townsville economy. More than 10,000 spectators filled the stands, generating 11,352 visitor nights and over $3.98 million in overnight visitor spend. The total economic impact? A whopping $4.23 million.
This year, the event is drawing back five of Australia’s top riders from the United States for the final showdown.
*** In huge news, bull riding superstar and current No. 3 in the world, Clermont’s Brady Fielder, will ride for the Australian title. The 25-year-old is having a standout season with the Texas Rattlers, coached by PBR co-founder Cody Lambert. Joining Fielder is Warwick’s Callum Miller, who rides with the Austin Gamblers and sits inside the top 50 in the world.
The three young Queensland bull riders drafted to the U.S. team series earlier this year will also return home to ride. Bull riding brothers Macaulie (24) and Boston Leather (20) from Calliope, both competing for the Missouri Thunder included! These boys are bull riding royalty – Macaulie was the 2024 Australian Champion Runner-Up and 2024 PBR Australia Grand Finals Event Champion, while Boston claimed the titles of 2024 Australian Champion and 2024 Australian Rookie of the Year.
Rounding out the famous five returning home from the USA is Bungundarra’s Thomas Triplett (19). He rides for the Oklahoma Wildcatters, was the Monster Energy Newcastle Origin I Event Champion 2025, and is a proud PBR Junior Academy alumnus, having progressed to the professional ranks in 2024.
Mareeba’s Kurt Shephard has his sights set on the $100,000 championship bonus, currently leading the Australian National Standings with 1,983.33 points. Brazil’s Luan Crystian Camara trimmed the gap by 34 points with his fifth-place finish in Mackay last weekend, while Willow Tree’s Clint Glass strengthened his grip on third.
PBR Australia Managing Director Glen Young said he was thrilled to see the momentum behind PBR Australia, the success of Australian riders, and the economic benefit brought to host cities and towns.
“When we established this event back in 1999, the vision was always to grow it into one of the richest and most prestigious bull riding events in Australia,” he said. “Today, with over $150,000 in prize money and a $100,000 championship bonus on the line, it’s incredibly rewarding to see that vision come to life.
What makes it truly special is the way the community has embraced the event year after year.”
“Our world-class Aussies continue to take the USA by storm in the PBR – the biggest and most competitive bull riding competition in the world, and our Australian series is recognised as producing some of the best riders globally. Come the final weekend of October, all eyes will be on Townsville as Australia’s best battle it out,” Young said.
Townsville Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said: “Townsville has fast become the home of Professional Bull Riding, and the community’s support year on year is a testament to the world-class event that is the PBR Grand Finals.”
“As the PBR Championship Series draws to a close, our city will once again come alive with excitement, colour and celebration. From local businesses to passionate residents, everyone gets swept up in the energy – and that’s what makes hosting this event so special.”
Townsville Enterprise Director of Major Event Acquisitions, Chelsea Cavanah, said: “The PBR Australia Grand Finals is not just a world-class sporting event – it’s a major economic driver for Townsville and North Queensland. With more than $4 million in impact last year alone, it proves how the right events deliver real returns for our city.”
“With Saturday’s tickets already sold out, Townsville has again proven we’re a city that punches well above our weight when it comes to major events. We’re proud to host such an authentic North Queensland experience and showcase everything our region has to offer. We’re counting down to two action-packed days of adrenaline, excitement, and unforgettable moments. The atmosphere at the PBR Grand Finals is electric – and there’s no better place to experience it than right here in Townsville.”
