AUSTRALIA’S FIRST CLOUD BASED SOLAR PLATFORM GIVES EVERYDAY AUSSIES A SEAT AT THE CLEAN-ENERGY TABLE

A new i-cloud style solar platform is closing Australia’s energy equity gap, giving renters and those previously ineligible for solar, a way to share in solar savings for the first time.

MEDIA RELEASE, Sydney, 27th October 2025: Australia’s clean energy boom has mostly favoured homeowners with sunny, suitable roofs. Already, rooftop solar generates 12.8 % of Australia’s electricity*, yet nearly one in three households rent (31%), and apartments now make up 16% of the nation’s housing stock, according to the ABS. Now, thanks to cutting-edge Australian startup, SolarCloud, solar is now entering its next evolution: going cloud-based. Much like your iCloud has all your photos and data, even when you switch phones or move house, SolarCloud has all your solar in the cloud, even when you move homes or change energy companies.

SolarCloud is set to democratise clean energy for all Australians by using a sharing-economy model to redistribute underused rooftops to people who’ve been locked out of the solar revolution. Whilst government schemes are now available to those with physical solar panels on their roof, SolarCloud is opening the opportunity to all Australians to have solar for the first time, and manages all the government scheme incentives in the $139 starting price  including those living in apartments, renters, or those with unsuitable roof structures. The good news for these consumers is that SolarCloud doesn’t require a physical roof, government grant or home ownership.

Many are aware of the array of challenges faced when installing solar and batteries in homes and now people can access this as a virtual solar battery option via SolarCloud. Unlike a traditional solar battery, SolarCloud offers you a virtual battery, as it places credits directly on any Australian energy bill so it does not matter what time of day or night that you use your energy.

With the Albanese government poised to unveil a new 2035 emissions target, clean energy is back in the national spotlight. Yet, millions of Australians are locked out of solar energy due to strata rules, shading, or unsuitable roof designs. At the same time, cost-of-living pressures are biting harder than ever, with electricity bills alone currently averaging $1,996 per household per year, depending on the state and household size. Furthermore, as rental affordability hits record lows, the question isn’t who can afford solar, but who can access it.

For SolarCloud CEO and Founder, John Kennedy, the revolutionary platform has been in development for almost a decade. He says, “The solar market is racing ahead, with rooftop solar already delivering nearly 13 % of grid power. Despite a record uptake of solar panels, so many are locked out of owning solar (more than 6 million Australians who rent), as they have the wrong roof, rent, or live in an apartment (over 2.4 million Australians). So access has long felt like a privilege reserved for homeowners and those with higher incomes. After nearly a decade of development,  gaining the correct energy and financial licenses, and happy test customers, we now bring you SolarCloud. It’s a more accessible model that finally gives everyone a way to tap into cheaper, cleaner energy, with no roof required.”

How Solar Cloud Works

Much like many other technologies that are a part of everyday life and housed in the cloud (eg. Netflix, Uber, Spotify etc.), SolarCloud customers still buy solar, it's just not on their roof - hence the name SolarCloud. The solar power is produced by commercial grade panels hosted around the world in the sun, with the benefits of 24,877 SolarCloud panels currently available for sale to Australian consumers. The SolarCloud system directly credits any Australian energy bill  – meaning no installation, no maintenance, no roof required.

  • Flexible solar investment options: Customers can invest in one panel at a time starting from $139AUD (while stocks last).

  • 24/7 tracking: monitor performance via the SolarCloud website.

  • Portability: your solar benefits effectively move with you even if you move home or change your energy provider.

*While national figures show around one in three Australian homes have solar, that figure also includes solar hot-water systems, so the number of households generating their own electricity is 12.8%.
