Founded by Rob Glass and Julian Hewitt, the entertainment, music and media law firm has launched with an established client base of high-profile Australian entertainers, including RÜFÜS DU SOL, Dom Dolla, Tones & I, Matt Corby, Abbie Chatfield and The Veronicas
Billboard-recognised music lawyers Rob Glass and Julian Hewitt have joined forces to establish Hewitt Glass, a specialist entertainment, music and media law firm focused on advising Australia’s top talent.
With a combined 40 years of industry and dealmaking experience, Hewitt and Glass have handled more than $300 million in entertainment and media transactions over the past three years while advising some of Australia’s most successful global artists, entertainment companies, rights holders and executives.
The launch comes as Australian artists, festivals and entertainment businesses increasingly operate on a global stage, creating growing demand for advisers with experience across international dealmaking, rights management, intellectual property and complex commercial transactions.
According to Glass, the increasing globalisation of Australia's entertainment sector created a clear need for a specialist firm built around both legal expertise and commercial dealmaking experience.
"Australian artists and entertainment businesses are achieving success on a scale that would have been difficult to imagine even a decade ago,” he said.
“As those careers and businesses become more sophisticated, the legal and commercial challenges become more complex as well. We created Hewitt Glass to provide specialist advice that reflects the realities of today's global entertainment market.”
The Sydney-based firm will focus on three core practice areas: music, entertainment, and M&A and corporate advisory. As Managing Partners, Hewitt and Glass will advise on matters ranging from recording, publishing, and touring agreements through to catalogue transactions, intellectual property strategy, entertainment financing, acquisitions and Artificial Intelligence.
The firm's client roster already includes award-winning recording artists, festivals and events such as RÜFÜS DU SOL, Dom Dolla, Matt Corby, Tones And I, The Veronicas, and Beyond the Valley, as well as film and television talent such as Abbie Chatfield and Dylan Alcott, composers such as Joff Bush (Bluey), production companies, entrepreneurs and investors.
Clients represented by the firm's founders have collectively generated more than 25 billion global streams and performed at some of the world's most recognised venues and events, including Coachella, Red Rocks, Marvel Stadium, Allianz Stadium and Madison Square Garden.
Hewitt says the creator economy is increasingly being shaped by intellectual property, technology and strategic transactions rather than traditional industry structures alone.
"Artists, creators and rights holders are thinking more strategically about ownership, growth and long-term value creation than ever before,” he said.
"Our goal is to help clients navigate that environment with advice that combines deep entertainment industry knowledge with strong commercial and corporate expertise.”
Hewitt and Glass were some of the first APAC-based lawyers to be recognised in Billboard's list of Top Music Lawyers in 2024 and 2025. A former major and independent label signed musician, Hewitt was the inaugural Music Industry Observer Music Lawyer of the Year. Glass is the leading adviser on music festival transactions in New Zealand, acting for more festival clients in that market than any other lawyer.
Glass said the firm is being established at a pivotal moment for Australia's entertainment sector.
"The opportunities for artists and entertainment businesses have never been greater, but neither has the complexity. We want to be the trusted advisers helping clients build lasting value in a rapidly evolving global market.”
