Breathing space now offered to parents, close to their child's hospital bed: onsite launch event

Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Sunshine joins Monash Children’s Hospital and Wodonga Hospital as Victoria’s only hospitals to offer a Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Family Room.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room is a special place where hundreds of families and caregivers are able to relax and have some ‘time out’ while still being close to their child in the hospital.

RMHC VIC & TAS will be celebrating the addition to their family support offering, with a morning tea event on-site, on Wednesday 11 September.

Come along for the ribbon cutting, check out the space, meet the friendly staff and volunteers who make it all happen, enjoy light refreshments, and even learn about the RMHC Learning Program school holiday activities.

Ronald McDonald Family Rooms offer a kitchen, donated snacks and refreshments, lounge and dining area, computer/internet, workspaces and a welcoming outdoor area.

From now on, Parents and carers can take a moment’s much-needed respite from the ward environment, especially necessary when spending long periods by their child’s bedside at Joan Kirner Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Thanks to the Western Health and the Western Health Foundation for providing the opportunity to have the Family Room within the Paediatric ward and the ability to support families at times when they really need it.
