Campaign for Liberals to drop nuclear reactors hits Wannon
Solutions for Climate Australia
Billboard targets critical marginal contest as election heats up
Today, Solutions for Climate Australia unveils a new billboard in Warrnambool warning of the high-cost of the Liberal National Party’s nuclear policy featuring two unmissable messages:
✔️Don’t let Dutton press the nuclear button
✔️When you see the cost of nuclear, you’ll have a meltdown
Adding nuclear could double your energy bills. Rejecting nuclear is a no-brainer for Australia.
“It’s become clear in the last month that Liberal Party MPs and candidates are trying to hide their own nuclear policies by not talking about them,” said Director of Solutions for Climate Australia Dr Barry Traill. “Wannon MP Dan Tehan has ruled out hosting a nuclear reactor in the electorate, but he’s said nothing about your neighbours in Gippsland being forced to host a risky reactor.
“Australians all over are clocking that nuclear reactors would be expensive, and lead to massively increased climate pollution and more extreme weather climate disasters, while we wait decades for them to be built.
“We hope this campaign will persuade the Liberal Party to reflect, and formally withdraw their unpopular nuclear policies. It’s a policy that’s clearly out of touch with what communities want," Dr Traill added. "We urge Mr. Tehan and other Coalition leaders to formally shift from their nuclear reactor policies and detail policies that support clean, reliable energy that is ready to roll out now, like wind and solar backed by batteries and hydro."
