CDU Centre for Better Health Futures featured in building awards

The Charles Darwin University (CDU) Centre for Better Health Futures received four awards at the 2026 Master Builders NT Excellence in Building and Construction Awards.

The awards received on the night included the developer, SHAPE Australia, receiving the Commercial/Industrial Construction $20 Million - $50 Million award.

The award recognises projects that employ innovative strategies, demonstrate exemplary management, leadership, and deliver a high-quality building. 

The three other awards recognise the work of subcontractors on the project.

CDU Pro Vice-Chancellor Faculty of Health Professor Dominic Upton said that the awards showcase the University's commitment to investing in state-of-the-art facilities for the Northern Territory. 

"The awards are an amazing result together with SHAPE we have delivered a purpose-built facility that students will be using well into the future," Professor Upton said.

“The Centre for Better Health Futures is designed to enable leading health education and training that help build a stronger health workforce and improve health outcome in the Northern Territory”.

Nicholas Mills, General Manager - NT at SHAPE Australia said that the award is an outstanding recognition of the skill and commitment behind one of SHAPE’s most significant projects in the Northern Territory.

“The Centre for Better Health Futures brought together complex construction, specialist technology and evolving design requirements,” Mr Mills said. 

“All delivered through strong collaboration with CDU and our local project partners”.

“We are incredibly proud to have helped create a facility that will support the future of healthcare education and delivery across the Territory.”

The building houses preclinical and clinical simulation environments equipped with virtual reality and mobile technologies that CDU students across the territory can use.
