CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS: TRUSTED DATA GUARDIANS IN AN AGE OF AI DISRUPTION AND MISINFORMATION

Chartered Accountants ANZ

As the world wrestles with disinformation, Chartered Accountants continue to be one of the most trustworthy professions, according to the latest Trust Survey by Edelman DXI for Chartered Accountants Worldwide.

Chartered Accountants are now five points ahead of the general term ‘accountants’ and three in four business leaders say Chartered Accountants are reliable partners to guide them through AI adoption and misinformation.

In fact, business leaders are already relying on Chartered Accountants to ensure data integrity – a role that has become even more critical in the age of artificial intelligence and misinformation.

“Chartered Accountants have emerged as natural and trusted data and integrity guardians because of their rigorous training and requirement to adhere to the Code of Ethics,” said Chartered Accountants Worldwide Chair and Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand (CA ANZ) Chief Executive Ainslie van Onselen.

“As AI transforms the way organisations operate, our members are at the forefront, guiding businesses through digital transformation, ensuring data accuracy, and helping to navigate the risks of misinformation.

“As businesses face new challenges brought on by AI adoption, the profession’s expertise in data governance and ethical decision-making is more important than ever.

“CA ANZ is committed to supporting its members as they help organisations harness the benefits of AI responsibly.

“We recently launched our AI Playbook – a practical guide designed to help members and their clients adopt AI ethically, manage risks, and maintain public trust. And our Certificate in AI Fluency is also helping members to embrace Generative AI to augment their key skills.”

The Trust Survey also highlights the growing importance of purpose and ESG (environmental, social, and governance) issues, with 82% of respondents saying Chartered Accountants are credible spokespeople on key business issues like sustainability, diversity, and inclusion.

“As trusted advisers, our members are uniquely positioned to help businesses thrive, not only by safeguarding data and driving innovation, but also by championing purpose and responsible business practices,” said Ms van Onselen.

The Trust Survey explored public and business trust in the accountancy profession during a period marked by global disruption and transformation, contained a sample size of 1,725 finance decision-makers (Director level and above) in businesses across 10 markets.
