As part of their "peaceful prayer and public witness" campaign outside the newly opened Kent Street venue, the group has issued a direct challenge to the state government and the public regarding a perceived double standard in how Christian heritage is treated compared to other major religions.

The marketing of specific events at the location risk constituting an offence of serious contempt and severe ridicule when looking to Australia's Anti Discrimination legal framework, and the group are considering such a complaint.
The Multi-Faith Contrast
The brotherhood argues that the provocative programming at the site, which originally featured "sacrilegious" marketing, themed drag events, and "unholy" brunch parties, would never be permitted, funded, or tolerated if it targeted the sacred spaces of other religious communities.
The Mosque Comparison: The group claims that a state-supported conversion of a former Islamic mosque into a hedonistic queer performance space would be swiftly rejected out of basic cultural sensitivity and respect for the Islamic community.
The Synagogue Comparison: The group asserts that funding an irreverent, adult-themed entertainment venue inside a historic Jewish synagogue would be immediately condemned as anti-semetic, highly offensive and an unacceptable violation of a minority community’s sacred heritage.
The Temple Comparison: The group points out that transforming a former Buddhist temple into a late-night nightclub environment would be viewed as an intolerable desecration of Eastern spiritual traditions.
Demanding Equal Respect for Christian Heritage
"An old church is not just an empty building, and our sacred traditions are not forms of cheap entertainment," stated a spokesperson for The Prodigal Sons during their public witness. "If the government would rightly recognise that transforming a mosque, a synagogue, or a temple into a queer nightclub is deeply offensive to those communities, they must apply that exact same standard of respect to Australia's foundational Christian architecture and culture."
The Taxpayer Conflict: State-Sponsored Mockery
The controversy is further heightened by the venue’s official backing. The Prodigal Sons condemn the Minns Labor State Government for using public funds to subsidise the project. The venue explicitly acknowledges that it is funded by the NSW Government through Create NSW, with opening-season showcase events presented and supported by Sound NSW alongside the local City of Sydney Council.
The brotherhood demands that the NSW Government immediately pull all taxpayer-funded grants, arguing that public money should never be used to finance arts programs or nightlife ventures that parody religious faith.
