Council advocacy delivers progress for Bradfield Park

Following sustained advocacy by North Sydney Council, the NSW Government has committed to reducing the Transport for NSW worksite, returning more of Bradfield Park to public use and investing in its renewal. 

Work will begin this year to scale back the worksite beside the northern pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Transport for NSW has also announced landscaping, drainage improvements and new turf in 2027, while Bradfield Plaza will be extended to support potential community events and activities. 

North Sydney Mayor Zoë Baker said the announcement delivered important progress on priorities Council had consistently raised with the NSW Government. 

“I am grateful to the Minister for responding to community concerns raised by Council and welcome the commitment to work with us to provide certainty for and improve this iconic public open space,” Mayor Baker said. 

“Council has consistently advocated for more of Bradfield Park to be returned to public use, for land affected by infrastructure works to be appropriately remediated and for greater certainty about the park’s future. 

“This announcement is an important step forward and demonstrates what sustained advocacy on behalf of our community can achieve.” 

Under the announced plans, Transport for NSW will install upgraded hoardings and foliage around the remaining worksite. Council will work with Transport for NSW to consider further improvements, including new street furniture, trees and vegetation. 

Council will work with Transport for NSW to deliver the announced improvements, continue seeking investigation and remediation of land affected by infrastructure works, and commence development of a long-term masterplan for Bradfield Park.
