Public Art Commission - Young Street plaza, Neutral Bay

Artists are invited to submit concepts for a permanent public artwork at the newly completed Young Street plaza, a key pedestrian space in the heart of Neutral Bay. The plaza has recently been upgraded with new paving, seating, lighting and landscaping As part of Council’s broader program to strengthen village centres and improve everyday use of public spaces.

Council is seeking creative, site‑responsive artworks that integrate with existing features of the plaza, including the concrete walls along Young Street and the central pergola. Rather than standalone sculptures, artists are encouraged to propose concepts that enhance the public domain and contribute to the identity and sense of place of this high‑use urban environment.

Research-led Creative Project - Notable Women of North Sydney

Council is inviting Expressions of Interest from artists and creatives to develop a research‑led creative project as stage two of the Notable Women of North Sydney initiative. Launched on International Women’s Day earlier this year, the multi‑year campaign celebrates the lives and contributions of women who have lived, worked in and shaped North Sydney, from historical figures to contemporary changemakers.

Stage two invites creatives to delve into archives and community stories to develop a proposal for a future work, program or creative outcome.  Proposals may take many forms, including publications or zines, podcasts, audio works, performances, guided walks or temporary public activations. Council is particularly keen to hear from artists with experience in research, storytelling and community engagement who approach this work with sensitivity, creativity and inclusivity. The selected proposal will be realised as part of stage three in 2027.

Gallery Exhibition Partner

Council is seeking a gallery exhibition partner within the North Sydney LGA to collaborate on a series of exhibitions showcasing artists from Council’s Creative Studios Program.

The partnership will deliver a minimum of two exhibitions between June 2026 and July 2027, providing professional exhibition opportunities for emerging and established artists working across diverse contemporary practices.

Council is looking for a gallery space that is accessible, open regularly to the public (including weekends), and equipped to present 2D, 3D, installation and audio‑visual works. In return, Council will provide project funding, support for exhibition openings and public programs, co‑branded promotion and recognition as an official Council exhibition partner.
