Dear Albo: Women of the Flotilla call on Prime Minister Albanese to respond to Israeli sexual and physical abuse of Australian flotilla participants.
Australian filmmaker Juliet Lamont is available for interview today after returning from the Global Sumud Flotilla mission to Gaza.
Juliet says she was subjected to torture, severe beatings and sexual violence while in Israeli custody after attempting to deliver food, medicine and baby formula to starving children in Gaza.
"They knew my name when they dragged me onto the deck. I was cable tied. My hands and ankles were shackled. They put so much water over my face I couldn't breathe. Every time I tried to get away from the water, they'd slap me again. I thought my number was up."
Juliet travelled on the mission alongside her daughter Isla.
Her account comes as Israeli armed forces are blacklisted by the United Nations for conflict-related sexual violence and authorities face growing international scrutiny over the treatment of detainees and as evidence from flotilla participants is being taken to the International Criminal Court in the Hague.
The objectives of the Australian delegation are:
1. Albanese to meet with Flotilla Survivors of Israeli violence and sexual assault
2. Expel The Israeli Ambassador for misleading or wilfully lying to Australians
3. Immediately stop all military trade and cooperation with Israel
Juliet is available today for radio, television and print interviews.
