Entries open for 2025 NSW Sustainability Awards: Celebrating innovation and resilience across the state

Entries are now open for the NSW Sustainability Awards.

Now in their fifth year, these awards honour the state's most innovative and impactful sustainability initiatives.

Delivered in partnership with the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment, and Water (DCCEEW), the Banksia Foundation is proud to showcase NSW’s leadership in sustainability. These prestigious awards provide a platform to recognise and celebrate the changemakers driving a more sustainable future – from businesses and communities to individuals and organisations.

Parliamentary Secretary for Energy and the Environment Trish Doyle said the NSW Sustainability Awards honour the visionaries and changemakers shaping a greener future.

“These awards continue to recognise and celebrate the state’s most innovative sustainability initiatives,” Ms Doyle said.

“From local communities to global enterprises, the 2025 NSW Sustainability Awards shine a spotlight on the individuals and organisations making a real impact. The NSW Government is proud to support a platform that champions those leading the way towards a more sustainable future.

“The NSW Government, in partnership with the Banksia Foundation, is driving sustainability forward. Through these prestigious awards, we are showcasing world-class initiatives and reinforcing NSW’s position as a leader in climate action and environmental stewardship.”

This year’s NSW Sustainability Awards focus on celebrating regional NSW.

“Regional NSW is the backbone of the state – home to one-third of the population and a key driver of our economy,” said Banksia Foundation CEO Graz van Egmond.

“Despite facing immense challenges from droughts, bushfires and floods, these communities continue to lead with resilience, innovation, and sustainability.

“Your sustainability story matters – whether you’re leading a large-scale sustainability project or making a local impact, your efforts deserve recognition. With NSW Government support, the NSW Sustainability Awards provide the platform to showcase your achievements and inspire others to take action.”

The award categories are:

• Biodiversity Award
• Circular Economy
• Climate Technology Impact Award
• Large Business Sustainability Leadership Award
• Marketing and Communications for Impact Award
• Net Zero Action Award
• Placemaking Award
• Sustainable Tourism Award

Applications close on 8 August 2025. An online information session about entering the awards will be run on 9 July, register via https://banksiafdn.com/about-awards-nsw to join. Finalists will be announced on 9 October and the winners on 9 December.
