Victorian cattle producers can now access a virtual fencing system backed by one of agriculture’s most trusted brands, with Gallagher's eShepherd system rolling out across the state.
The Victorian launch marks a significant milestone for Gallagher as demand grows for technology that helps farmers improve grazing management, increase flexibility and make more confident decisions on-farm.
Gallagher Animal Management general manager – global strategy and new ventures, Sarah Adams, said the company had taken a deliberate approach to bringing virtual fencing to market.
“From day one, our focus has been on building a system that works reliably in real-world farming environments and delivers long-term value for farmers,” Ms Adams said.
“Gallagher has spent nearly nine decades developing products farmers can rely on. eShepherd builds on that legacy, combining proven virtual fencing technology with the support and experience of a company that has been serving agriculture for generations.”
Before its Victorian rollout, eShepherd was extensively tested across diverse farming systems around the world, helping ensure the technology was ready to perform in demanding commercial environments. The result is a system designed to provide farmers with confidence in both its reliability and long-term performance.
Unlike a subscription-based approach, eShepherd offers farmers the predictability of outright ownership, giving producers certainty over their investment and reducing exposure to ongoing subscription costs.
“Virtual fencing is a significant investment for any farm business, and farmers need confidence they are choosing a system they can rely on for years to come,” Ms Adams said.
“With eShepherd, farmers own their investment from day one and have the backing of a stable, well-established agricultural company that is committed to supporting them for the long term.”
The first Victorian producers have already deployed eShepherd on their properties, using the technology to simplify livestock management and unlock new grazing opportunities.
Gallagher continues to invest in the future of digital farm management, with eShepherd forming part of a broader ecosystem of technologies designed to help farmers run smarter, more efficient and more resilient businesses.
“Technology should make farming simpler, not more complicated,” Ms Adams said.
“We'll continue working alongside farmers to refine eShepherd, develop new capabilities and ensure the technology delivers practical benefits where it matters most – on farm.”

About eShepherd:
eShepherd is the GPS-enabled virtual fencing system from Gallagher, the family-owned animal-management company that has engineered farm fencing for 88 years. A solar-powered neckband holds and moves cattle using audio-first cues, so producers can subdivide paddocks, rotate grazing, and protect sensitive land from a phone, with no posts, no wire, and no daily musters. Part of the eShepherd Farm Operating System™, it pairs the neckband with a web and mobile app for planning moves, monitoring animals, and reading the land, bringing Precision Livestock Management™ to extensive grazing.
