ESSSuper congratulates Robbie Campo, commences search for new CEO

The Board President of ESSSuper, Pam Rebecca, has announced that Robbie Campo will be leaving ESSSuper to take up the position of CEO at HESTA Super Fund.

“It is with a great deal of pride for Robbie that we make this announcement. We were the first organisation to have the benefit of Robbie’s leadership as CEO. Her appointment by HESTA is a recognition of her impeccable character, leadership skills and expertise, while also reflecting well on the work she has done leading ESSSuper for the past four years.

“Her focus on delivering strong member outcomes has been done with her characteristic warm, collaborative and engaging style. She has built a strong, capable and outcomes focused team. Our organisation is now primed to take further steps to implement our strategic priorities,”

“ESSSuper is a unique fund. It is one of the few funds in Australia with an open defined benefit fund, and last year celebrated its 100^th anniversary.

“Since joining ESSSuper in 2022, Robbie has led the fund through a range of challenges, important milestones and achievements.

“Robbie has been a tireless advocate for members, driven by our purpose of making a lifetime of positive difference to those who have served the Victorian community. She has reinforced our strong relationships with the Victorian Government, employers and unions.

While we will commence a thorough executive search, we have a strong and well credentialled executive team to ensure a seamless handover.

“While Robbie will be deeply missed by staff, stakeholders and the Board, it is a fitting recognition of her expertise and reputation within the sector that she has been appointed to lead HESTA, one of Australia’s largest superannuation funds.”

The fund plays a unique role as a Victorian public sector entity delivering to members who are working, or worked, to serve and protect all Victorians. As a leader attracted to purpose driven roles, the chance to support ESSSuper’s members to make the most of their unique scheme and enjoy the best retirement possible, after a lifetime of service to the Victorian community, has been meaningful and rewarding. I have been supported and challenged by a great Board, led in turn by two incredible women Joan Fitzpatrick and Pam Rebecca and have loved leading the committed ESSSuper executive and team. 

I will depart ESSSuper with much pride in the important progress made in optimising member outcomes over the past four years.

I am thrilled to have been appointed as HESTA’s CEO, a role which will allow me to continue my passion for improving the economic security of Australians and, in particular, for improving retirement outcomes for women. 

Created 100 years ago ESSSuper is an agency of the Victorian Government. We’re not public offer: membership is exclusive to current members that are active or retired public servants who have provided essential services to the community, including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, teachers and support workers. We have over 121,000 members holding over $39.5 billion in defined benefit and accumulation net assets (as at 30 June 2025)
