Sustainable Population Australia (SPA) offers practical policy measures that can slow migration to manageable numbers, ultimately stabilising Australia’s population below 30 million. These are available to read in a brand new report ‘6 Great Immigration Solutions’.
This report provides logical and concise rationale in informing better policy on the critical issues of immigration and Australia’s population future.

Comments attributable to Mr Bayliss:
“The federal government has failed to bring immigration numbers under control following the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“Net overseas migration for calendar year 2024 was 50% higher than pre-COVID levels at 340,800 and continues to exceed Treasury projections. The resultant high population growth (around 1.7%) puts unrelenting pressure on housing, infrastructure, carbon emissions, water supplies and the natural environment.
“Australia needs a courageous government that refuses to be dominated by special interest lobbies such as the property development and university sectors.”
Mr Peter Strachan, National President, Sustainable Population Australia
Contact: 0412 400 952 (from 06:30am AWST); [email protected]
Comments attributable to Mr Strachan:
“The future of Australia’s immigration policy is a choice, not an inevitability. Our report offers an alternative to ‘business as usual’ in which high immigration is used as a tool for short term economic interests and for which the consequences are many.”
“The six solutions detailed in this report include the following:
- Set a net overseas migration target of no more than 70,000 per year
- Grant temporary and permanent worker visas only with employer sponsorship
- Integrate data systems to track employment outcomes and facilitate labour hire
- Cap student visas and raise entry standards
- Issue graduate visas only for the best graduates
- Limit guest workers to 6 out of every 12 months in Australia
SPA has every confidence that a government which applies these six solutions will create a better long-term future for all Australians.”
