Family First has called on Federal Health Minister Mark Butler to urgently intervene and direct Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to de-register Dr Beth Upton, a biological male identifying as a female doctor, warning that women’s rights and informed consent are being undermined.

National Director Lyle Shelton said no woman should be misled into believing she is being treated by a female doctor when that is not the case.

“This is a basic matter of truth and transparency in healthcare,” Mr Shelton said.

“This situation is the direct result of years of LGBTIQA+ political activism, led by groups like Equality Australia, which have pushed ideology ahead of biological reality.”

Mr Shelton noted that Equality Australia counts Governor General Sam Mostyn as a co-patron, highlighting how deeply embedded radical ideology has become in Australia’s institutions.

“AHPRA’s job is to protect patients — not to enforce activist agendas,” he said.

“Women have a right to know the biological sex of their doctor, especially in sensitive medical situations. Without that, informed consent is impossible.”

Family First is calling for the immediate revocation of Dr Upton’s registration and for clear safeguards to ensure biological sex cannot be obscured in medical settings.

“Disciplinary action should be taken against the AHPRA bureaucrats who approved his registration as a female,” Mr Shelton said.
