This weekend sees a range of ideologically driven events and outreach that increasingly normalise drag performances and Pride activities – Family First responds

Family First Victorian candidate Jane Foreman says the Allan Labor Government’s $1.6 million in grants to LGBTIQA+ organisations is the wrong priority as councils and government agencies across Victoria continue staging IDAHOBIT and related Pride events in public venues this weekend.

If elected, Family First will terminate this funding and redirect the savings into targeted youth mental health initiatives that support families in raising healthy, resilient young people.

“Victorian families should not be forced to bankroll drag and Pride activism through their taxes, especially in publicly owned venues used by children. This money should go to services that actually help young people — practical mental health support, early intervention and family-focused care.”

Ms Foreman said Family First would also move to ban drag queens and Pride events from publicly owned venues where children are likely to be present, arguing that public spaces should be safe, neutral and family-friendly.

“Parents are fed up with activist events being pushed into libraries, community centres and council spaces. Public venues should serve families, not ideological campaigns. Children need stability, not confusion, and parents deserve a government that backs them.”

Family First will advocate for investment in earlyintervention programs, familycentred counselling, and schoolbased wellbeing initiatives that strengthen stable parenting relationships and restore the family as the primary unit of care and support.

“At a time of real pressure on families, Labor is still spending on ideology. Family First will cancel these grants, put that money into targeted youth mental health initiatives, and put the wellbeing of children and families first.”
