Feast smart, not hard: Aussies urged to embrace meal planning for stress-free Easter

Sydney, Australia, 18 April 2025 – With Easter break approaching, Aussies are being encouraged to skip the post-holiday blues by planning their meals ahead of time and taking a balanced approach to nutrition. New research reveals more than seven in 10 (71%) Australians surveyed expect to indulge during the break, with a portion (29%) estimating they will consume 1 to 2 kilograms of Easter treats like chocolate bunnies and hot cross buns.

 

While Easter is a time for celebration and enjoyment, it also prompts reflection on eating habits, with nearly one in six Australians (17%) surveyed already planning a post-Easter diet. Of those planning to diet, 61% are doing so before they want to feel healthier after indulging over the break, while 22% claim because they ate or drank too much, and want to get ahead of their nutrition goals.

 

Nutritionist and MyFitnessPal ambassador, Michaela Sparrow said, “This underscores a common struggle: balancing indulgence with long-term health goals. Easter is about enjoying the foods we love, but even the thought of overindulging on treats can lead to pre and post-holiday regrets. Planning meals is about being mindful of our choices, while enjoying our favorite dishes. With a little planning, Aussies can have the best of both worlds by savouring the season without guilt.”

Survey respondents also reported that meal planning––deciding what to eat for the week ahead and shopping for everything in advance––not only saves time (71%), but also helps save money (68%).

"It’s about simple strategies—like planning for healthy snacks such as veggie sticks, fruit salads, or protein-packed dessert alternatives—that let you enjoy the festivities without feeling sluggish from excess refined carbs and sugars."
