Major construction milestone reached at the Burnett Heads waterfront development

 

 

Burnett Heads, Qld, 21 May 2026 – The first marina piles for the Gateway Marina development at Burnett Heads have now arrived on site, marking a significant milestone in the commencement of marina construction works.

 

Bellingham Marine Australia has been formally appointed under a turnkey design and construction arrangement for the delivery of the marina infrastructure, with piling works expected to commence within the coming weeks.

 

Confidence to recommence the development has come through significant work undertaken alongside key stakeholders, including the resetting of critical tenure and commercial arrangements with Gladstone Ports Corporation, recommencement of planning and engineering activities, lodgement of a minor change application, and the formal procurement of the first 92 marina berths.

 

The overall marina construction program is already well advanced from an engineering, procurement and manufacturing perspective, with detailed design completed and marina manufacturing scheduled through to September.

 

Stage One of the development will include:

 

•           88 private recreational marina berths

•           4 commercial marina berths

•           A 24-hour fuel dock providing diesel and premium unleaded fuel

•           A 200 square metre waterfront café/restaurant tenancy

•           A new marina amenities building

•           Car parking for 53 vehicles

•           Supporting marina services and infrastructure

 

The Stage One marina infrastructure is currently targeting practical completion and opening on 27 November 2026.

 

Leasing discussions are also progressing for the waterfront retail and hospitality components that will support the opening marina operations.

 

The marina is being positioned as a full-service boating destination and safe harbour facility at the gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef, supporting both recreational and commercial marine activity while forming the foundation for future tourism, hospitality and residential expansion across the broader master planned precinct.

 

The broader Gateway Marina masterplan currently includes approvals for approximately 300 marina berths together with mixed-use waterfront development comprising tourism accommodation, hospitality, commercial village uses and residential apartments to be delivered progressively over future stages.

 

Details regarding the projects future residential offering are expected to be released in due course as planning and staging progresses.
