First Redcliffe PET-CT service expands cancer imaging as demand rises

Oncology patients in South East Queensland now have faster access to life-saving cancer imaging following the introduction of the first PET-CT service on the Redcliffe Peninsula.

The first PET-CT service on the Redcliffe Peninsula, now available at Qscan Redcliffe, expands cancer imaging capacity in one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions, easing pressure on Brisbane services and improving access to faster diagnosis and treatment.

Until now, many Peninsula patients travelled into Brisbane for PET-CT scans, with some facing trips of up to an hour while undergoing cancer treatment.

The new service allows patients to access imaging closer to home and is expected to support hundreds of patients from the Moreton Bay region each year.

Demand for cancer imaging is increasing, with more than 35,000 Queenslanders diagnosed with cancer annually and the Moreton Bay region projected to reach nearly 700,000 residents by 2041.

Medicare-eligible PET-CT scans at Qscan Redcliffe will be bulk billed, reducing out-of-pocket costs for eligible patients.

The PET-CT service forms part of the $30 million Altiva Health medical precinct, which will also include GenesisCare radiation oncology services and one other healthcare tenant, creating an integrated cancer care hub for the Redcliffe Peninsula.

PET-CT scans help clinicians detect, stage and monitor cancer, supporting earlier diagnosis and treatment planning.

The service is supported by specialist radiologists experienced in advanced cancer imaging and has been designed to deliver a high-quality, patient-centred experience during complex cancer scans.

Expanding access to advanced diagnostic imaging in growth regions is critical to ensuring Queensland patients can access timely cancer care closer to home.

Quote: Kerri-Anne Dooley – State Member for Redcliffe

“This is an immensely significant milestone for the Redcliffe community and for the City of Moreton Bay. Currently, Redcliffe Hospital does not have a PET scan facility and the nearest is at North Lakes, with the closest public option at the Royal Brisbane. Having this service available locally is a major step forward and a wonderful outcome for our community, bringing vital healthcare closer to home.”
