From the field to the future: why Australia's primary producers can't afford to miss foodpro 2026
Diversified Australia
- foodpro 2026 will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 26–29 July 2026, featuring more than 400 exhibitors and over 9,000 industry professionals across food processing, packaging, cold chain, food safety and digital manufacturing, with free entry for industry professionals.
- The event will showcase post-harvest technology including cold chain and refrigeration systems, fresh produce packaging innovations, conveyor and sorting equipment, and wash, grade and inspection systems to help producers reduce losses and protect product integrity.
- Primary producers will gain direct access to food safety testing, traceability technology and compliance specialists, helping them stay ahead of escalating retailer and processor requirements across retail, foodservice and export markets.
- Attending gives primary producers a rare opportunity to walk the full supply chain and understand what processors are investing in and demanding from incoming product — intelligence that carries real commercial value at contract time.
- foodpro operates on a triennial cycle, and the 2026 edition — 20 per cent larger than the 2023 event — is the only major Australian food processing and packaging trade event this year, with the next edition not taking place until 2029.
MELBOURNE, July 2026 — For Australia’s primary producers, the gap between paddock and processor has never been more commercially critical. Decisions made in packhouses, cold stores and processing facilities directly affect what gets paid at the farm gate, how product is handled post-harvest, and what standards are required from season to season.
foodpro 2026 — Australia’s leading trade event for food processing, packaging and innovation — returns to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 26–29 July 2026. With more than 400 exhibitors, 9,000+ industry professionals and a program spanning processing technology, cold chain, food safety, packaging and digital manufacturing, it is the single most concentrated showcase of food supply chain solutions in Australia this year.
The event is free to attend for industry professionals, and it is open to primary producers, farm operations managers, packhouse operators and anyone working at the interface of production and processing.
Post-harvest technology front and centre
Post-harvest losses remain one of the most significant and under addressed costs in Australian primary production. Temperature breaks, handling damage and inadequate packaging continue to erode the value of fresh produce, meat and seafood long before it reaches the consumer.
foodpro 2026 will showcase the cold chain solutions, fresh produce packaging innovations and post-harvest handling equipment that are helping producers reduce losses, extend shelf life and protect product integrity from the point of harvest through to the packhouse and beyond.
- Cold chain and refrigeration systems designed for primary production environments
- Fresh produce packaging — protective materials, modified atmosphere and sustainable alternatives
- Conveyor, sorting and handling equipment suited to post-harvest applications
- Wash, grade and inspection systems for fresh produce and proteins
Food safety requirements: staying ahead of the processors
Retailer and processor food safety requirements continue to escalate. For primary producers supplying into major retail, foodservice or export markets, staying across the latest compliance expectations is no longer optional.
foodpro brings together food safety testing and diagnostics suppliers, traceability technology providers and compliance specialists in one place — giving producers direct access to the solutions that processors are already adopting and will increasingly expect their suppliers to match.
Understanding what your processor needs — and why it matters
The more clearly a primary producer understands the processing and packaging requirements downstream, the stronger their commercial position becomes. Producers who arrive at foodpro get a rare opportunity to walk the full supply chain — seeing firsthand what meat processors, dairy facilities, fresh produce packhouses and ingredient manufacturers are investing in, what equipment they’re running and what performance they’re demanding from incoming product.
That intelligence has real value at contract time.
400+ suppliers across the full food supply chain
Exhibitors at foodpro 2026 span every segment of food and beverage manufacturing — from processing equipment and packaging to digital factory systems, ingredients, logistics and infrastructure. For primary producers, the most relevant zones include:
- Processing Equipment — slicing, portioning, washing and grading systems
- Packaging Solutions — fresh produce, MAP, vacuum and sustainable materials
- Factory Infrastructure, Logistics & Handling — cold chain, conveyors, refrigeration
- Food Science & Technology — safety testing, diagnostics and traceability
- Sustainability — waste reduction, energy efficiency and circular packaging solutions
“foodPro 2026 is where the food manufacturing industry comes together — and that includes the primary producers who feed it. The connections made between producers, processors and technology suppliers at this event are the ones that drive real change across the supply chain.”
— Louise Brooks, Event Director, foodpro 2026
The only event of its kind in Australia in 2026
foodpro runs on a triennial cycle, returning every three years. The 2026 edition is 20 per cent larger than the 2023 event and is the only major Australian food processing and packaging trade event this year. For primary producers looking to understand the direction of downstream processing, evaluate new suppliers and make connections that support their businesses through the next production cycle, there is no equivalent opportunity in 2026.
The next edition of foodpro will not take place until 2029.
