Key Facts:
  • GBP K.K. has formed a strategic partnership with Tongwei Co., Ltd., becoming their market entry and localisation partner in Japan for solar products
  • The partnership addresses the challenge of entering complex, regulated solar markets that require deep local knowledge, certification expertise, and established infrastructure
  • GBP K.K. will deploy Tongwei's TNC 3.0 module in repowering and weather damage recovery projects, particularly in snow-affected regions
  • The agreement elevates GBP K.K.'s position from a regional specialist to a global strategic partner capable of helping manufacturers enter high-barrier markets
  • GBP K.K. plans to expand its manufacturing partnerships and strengthen product capabilities across its operating regions to support technical solar infrastructure development

Strengthening its role as a market entry partner and expanding its platform in Japan

GBP K.K. has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Tongwei Co., Ltd., the world's largest solar cell supplier. The agreement positions GBP K.K. as Tongwei's market entry and localisation partner in Japan, and marks a broader strategic inflection point: the emergence of GBP K.K. as a platform connecting global solar manufacturers with the local expertise, certification infrastructure, and project execution capability required to operate in the world's most technically demanding markets.

The Global Challenge That Makes This Partnership Significant

Scale is no longer sufficient for global solar expansion. As Tongwei's own leadership has acknowledged, international revenue remains a relatively small share of total income despite the company's position as the world's largest solar cell supplier — with a stated goal of achieving a balanced domestic and international revenue mix as a medium-to-long-term priority.

The reason is structural. Markets like Japan, and increasingly Europe, Australia, and North America, present barriers that go beyond product quality: strict certification requirements, established commercial practices, localised after-sales infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks that require deep market knowledge to navigate. Tongwei Solar itself has noted that "frequent changes in PV policies and import-export requirements have prompted enterprises to gain an in-depth understanding of the rules," and that globalisation has become increasingly complex for even the largest manufacturers.

GBP K.K. has spent years building exactly the capabilities that address this challenge: technical expertise aligned with local certification standards, an established project and customer network, and end-to-end project execution capability spanning EPC, O&M, Solar Replacement Panels, and civil works.

Tongwei's decision to partner with GBP K.K. — rather than pursue independent market entry — reflects that these capabilities have been recognised at the highest level of the global solar industry. It also establishes a model with implications beyond Japan: as regulated solar markets globally raise their technical and compliance standards, the value of this type of localisation expertise will only increase.

From Regional Specialist to Global Strategic Partner

This partnership represents a fundamental shift in GBP K.K.'s competitive position. Until now, GBP K.K.'s competitive advantage has been primarily regional — deep local knowledge of a technically demanding market. The Tongwei partnership elevates that advantage to a global level.

By demonstrating the ability to serve as the preferred market entry partner for the world's largest solar cell supplier, GBP K.K. establishes itself not merely as a Japan market specialist, but as a partner capable of helping global solar manufacturers navigate the complex, high-barrier markets that will increasingly define the next phase of solar industry growth. This positions GBP K.K. with stronger leverage and broader relevance on the international stage — one that can help global PV leaders unlock markets they could not efficiently enter alone.

Focus on Repowering and Recovery Projects

As part of the collaboration, GBP K.K. will deploy Tongwei's latest module, the TNC 3.0, in repowering and weather damage recovery projects. The module is designed for long-term operational stability, incorporating a flexible buffer structure that reduces microcrack risk and a segmented cell design that limits output loss if damage occurs — characteristics that support stable performance in heavy snow environments and other demanding conditions.

Initial deployment will focus on repowering of aging solar assets and recovery and replacement projects in snow-affected regions, with broader application across GBP K.K.'s international project portfolio as the partnership develops.

Looking Ahead

GBP K.K. will continue to expand its network of strategic manufacturing partners and strengthen its product selection and supply capabilities in line with market requirements across its operating regions. The goal is to offer asset owners, EPC contractors, and IPPs access to the most suitable technology for each project, backed by GBP K.K.'s full-cycle project execution capability — in Japan and in the international markets where demand for technically rigorous solar infrastructure support continues to grow.
