GLNC Strengthens Strategic Leadership with Appointment of New Directors

Grains & Legumes Nutrition Council

The Grains Legumes and Nutrition Council (GLNC) is pleased to announce the appointment of new directors to its board following an Expression of Interest and selection process.

Mr Ron Storey, GLNC Chair, commended the high calibre of applicants, highlighting it as a testament to GLNC’s impactful work in the food and grains industry. “We have attracted strong leaders with extensive experience and a strong commitment to promoting healthy, nutritious, sustainable and affordable foods from our grains and legumes,” he said.

The newly appointed directors are:

Dr Kirsty Germaine: Director of Technical, Quality and Sustainability at Mauri, a division of George Weston Foods; Kirsty is a technical business leader with 25 years of experience in the grains industry, working both in grains research and the baking ingredients industry. Kirsty is passionate about nutrition and the role grains and legumes play in healthy diets.

Mr Andrew May: Co-CEO of Essantis (formerly Unigrain); Andrew has over a decade of experience in cereal and food manufacturing. He has played a key role in Essantis’ development, particularly in alternate protein and oat milk supply chains. His background includes finance and corporate advisory roles in Australia and the UK.

Dr Lisa Ronquest-Ross: Chief Science Officer of v2foods, Lisa offers broad global research and development experience from leading multinationals, including Unilever, Mars and Woolworths. Lisa is dedicated to applying science and technology to benefit both people and the planet.

Mr Richard Simonaitis: Based in Perth, Richard is the CEO of Grains Australia, bringing extensive industry experience from senior management roles in the grains and export-commodity sectors.

“We are delighted with these appointments at GLNC. It will help steer the future direction of GLNC in the legumes and grains industry, provide important insights on key nutrition and diet trends, and strengthen linkages from farmers to consumers,” said Ron Storey.

Robyn Murray, current GLNC director and former GM of Innovation and Head of Ingredient Development at Allied Pinnacle, will retire from the GLNC Board at the November 2024 AGM.

“Robyn’s outstanding guidance and service have been invaluable to GLNC. These new appointments allow us to manage a smooth succession and continuity. We also appreciate all GLNC supporters who submitted Expressions of Interest for these roles,” Mr Storey said.

A further director appointment may be announced in the coming months, pending confirmation of the applicant’s availability.
