GRNSW EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP TEAM ANNOUNCED

Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) Chief Executive Officer Steve Griffin has today announced the appointment of a new executive team following a restructure of the organisation in May.
“I am pleased to bring together such a high-quality team of executives each of whom possess the experience and expertise our organisation requires to deliver the outcomes the industry and community expect of us,” Mr Griffin said.
The wide-ranging recruitment saw more than 250 candidates apply for the four executive positions.
“I was delighted by the high number of applications we received to our advertisement of the roles together and the high-quality of both the internal and external candidates,” Mr Griffin said.
The new executive team are:
Chief Racing Officer – Brian Charman
Brian Charman comes to GRNSW from Racing NSW where he was head of welfare and integrity. Prior to that role he had almost a decade overseeing regional thoroughbred racing clubs across NSW, particularly in the role of Chief Executive Country Racing NSW, and prior to that many years running accountancy practises.
Brian’s experience and expertise aligns perfectly with GRNSW’s desire to work closely with racing clubs to deliver the best racing product possible and returns to participants.
He comes from a thoroughbred training family that was also involved in greyhounds in his early years.
“My passion is working closely with the racing clubs in country and regional NSW to deliver the best racing product possible for industry participants and the racegoers that results in maintaining and growing the footprint of the industry and importantly aligns with the GRNSW vision to maximise the opportunities and returns to the industry,” Mr Charman said.
Chief Operating Officer – Nick Santucci
Nick Santucci comes to GRNSW from Tabcorp where he was the General Manager, Industry Affairs. Prior to Tabcorp, Nick worked as Group Manager, Business Development, at The Star Entertainment Group following periods of working as an advisor to a number of NSW Government Ministers. Nick is a qualified lawyer who practiced for a number of years at Clayton Utz.
Nick’s expertise and experience in wagering and working within a government operating environment will be invaluable as he leads the work to settle new broadcast rights agreements along with other key industry sustainability projects.
“Greyhound racing is a passionate and growing sport, supported by dedicated participants and fans,” he said. “I’m proud to join GRNSW at a time when we can lift wagering performance in a way that not only drives sustainable growth and industry funding, but also upholds the highest standards of animal welfare and enhances the enjoyment of the sport for all involved.”
Chief Welfare Officer – Mark Slater
Mark comes from a strong animal welfare background having been the CEO of the NSW Animal Welfare league for a number of years. Mark was instrumental in establishing the well-known television show The Dog House Australia on the Ten Network.
Mark also has a strong background in marketing which aligns perfectly with GRNSW’s vision for uplifting domestic pet placement.
“I look forward to engaging openly and respectfully with all stakeholders - including trainers, veterinarians, behaviour specialists, caregivers, rehoming organisations, regulators and the whole of government - to ensure the welfare of these remarkable dogs remains at the heart of everything we do." Mr Slater said.
Chief Corporate Services Officer – Joy Edwards
Joy has an extensive corporate service background in Australia and internationally and has been with the organisation since late 2024. During this time Joy has delivered a substantial uplift in people and culture and governance programs.
Joy’s understanding of the organisation will be an invaluable asset as GRNSW moves forward to further build the employee value proposition and strengthen the organisation’s connection with key stakeholders and the community.
“It’s been a privilege to be part of GRNSW’s operational and cultural refresh and reset,” she said. “I’m looking forward to continuing this journey working with Steve and the ELT to ensure we deliver a thriving, inclusive, safe and sustainable greyhound racing industry.”
Brian, Nick and Mark will take up their roles throughout this month.
“I would like to express my gratitude to Michael Cowley, Scott Kirkham and Brad Adam for their professionalism and commitment whilst acting in our executive roles over the past few months,” Mr Griffin said.
