HALLIDAY WINE COMPANION TOP 100 WINERIES ANNOUNCED FOR 2025

Tide Communications

Halliday Wine Companion has just revealed its Top 100 Wineries 2025 (on 22 October); a celebration of the best wineries in Australia, right now. The list of 100 spans producers from around the country and focuses on their complete portfolio. Each name listed is a champion of Australian wine.

To be selected as a Top 100 Winery, Halliday must have reviewed each producer's wines within the last 12 months. A 1100-long list became just over 450 wineries. Then, it came down to quality – quality had to be consistent across the range.

“The names on this list never rest on their laurels – they constantly strive for better, in their winery, their vineyards, with their growers, and their regions. These are the producers shaping Australia’s modern wine landscape and ensuring its future, ” says Katrina Butler, Halliday’s Head of Tasting.

Proudly sitting at number one is Margaret River’s Vasse Felix, which was awarded the top spot for its exceptional range of wines and rich history in the region.

"Chief winemaker Virginia Willcock and viticulturist Bart Molony have also both won major awards in the 2026 and 2025 editions of the Halliday Wine Companion, as Winemaker of the Year and Viticulturist of the Year respectively,” Katrina adds. “In 2025, too, its flagship wine Tom Cullity celebrates its 10th vintage, and the 2023 Heytesbury Chardonnay was name Chardonnay of the Year and White Wine of the Year in the 2026 Companion. We congratulate Vasse Felix on this monumental achievement. The result of decades of unwavering commitment. ”

Coming in at a close second is the Hunter Valley’s Brokenwood, which was also named Winery of the Year in the 2026 Companion.

At number three, Oakridge is in good company of other Yarra Valley stalwarts, Mount Mary, Yarra Yering, Giant Steps and Hoddles Creek Estate. The balance of the top 25 is rounded out with glittering names, from Beechworth royalty Giaconda, to top McLaren Vale wineries including Yangarra Estate, Thistledown and Koomilya. Cult Barossa Valley producers The Standish Wine Co and Sami-Odi also feature alongside some of the best wineries in the Clare and Eden Valleys.

Halliday acknowledges that there are some important producers who are missing from the list. Many of whom are deserving of inclusion, but either didn’t submit wines for review, or are just barely out of frame. The Top 100 Wineries is intended to be dynamic year-on-year, and to reflect and celebrate a producer’s current performance. To celebrate the momentous release of both Top 100 Wines and Top 100 Wineries 2025, Halliday is hosting two tasting events. The Melbourne event will be at Panama Dining Room on Wednesday 12 November, and Brisbane’s will be at Cloudland on Thursday 20 November. These exciting tasting events will feature a selection of producers featured in the Top 100 Wines and Top 100 Wineries, who will be in attendance to showcase their award-winning wines.
