Importers Warned of Major Cost Increases Following New Trade Measures

Australian importers of aluminium windows and doors could be facing significant increases in landed costs following the introduction of new interim anti-dumping measures on imports from China.

Effective from 15 October 2026, the Australian Trade Remedies Commission has imposed interim anti-dumping and countervailing securities on certain aluminium window and door imports from China, with rates reaching as high as 73.3% for some exporters.

International freight and customs specialist DEAN World Cargo is warning businesses not to underestimate the impact these measures could have on project budgets, procurement decisions and supply chain planning over the coming months.

"For many importers, these measures have the potential to fundamentally change the cost of doing business almost overnight," said John Stathopoulos, CEO/Director at DEAN World Cargo.

"Businesses that rely on imported aluminium windows and doors should be reviewing their supply chains now to understand whether upcoming shipments will be affected and what that could mean for their bottom line."

The changes are expected to affect businesses across the construction, property development, building products and manufacturing sectors, particularly those with goods already in transit or scheduled for import in the coming weeks.

With the Trade Remedies investigation still ongoing and final recommendations not expected until December, uncertainty remains around the long-term implications for importers and their suppliers.

DEAN World Cargo says the announcement highlights the growing importance of supply chain visibility and customs compliance, with businesses needing a clear understanding of who their manufacturers and exporters are, and how products are declared at the border.

"We're entering a period where customs and trade regulations are becoming increasingly complex," said Stathopoulos.

"Importers that take a proactive approach now will be better positioned to avoid unexpected costs, compliance issues and potential disruptions later."

The freight and logistics provider expects many businesses to reassess supplier arrangements, examine alternative sourcing strategies and seek specialist advice as they work through the implications of the new measures.

DEAN World Cargo is encouraging affected importers to review current orders, assess potential cost impacts and consult with customs and freight professionals to understand their obligations before future shipments arrive.
