Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) is proud to announce it will once again partner with the Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) to raise funds and help build awareness around the Foundation and its fight against brain cancer.

In 2025 GRNSW was honoured to be able to work with the MHF on a number of fund-raising initiatives notably the ‘Red & Blue All November Through’ campaign which saw more than $50,000 raised in the penultimate month of the year.

In total $120,000 was raised by GRNSW and the industry in 2025 through a series of promotions and events. GRNSW also donated $20,000 to the MHF when the partnership was announced.

“We’re incredibly proud to have Greyhound Racing NSW continuing their support of the Mark Hughes Foundation throughout 2026 for a second consecutive year,” Mark Hughes said.

“After the enormous success of last year’s campaign, which raised an incredible $120,000, it means so much to have the industry once again standing beside us in the fight against brain cancer.

“Brain cancer continues to impact far too many Australian families, and partnerships like this help give hope to those facing the disease.

“We’re especially excited for the campaign to once again culminate later in the year with the ‘Red & Blue All November Through’ initiative, which brings the whole industry together in support of our mission.

“We’re extremely grateful to GRNSW, participants, clubs and supporters for continuing to back our race to beat brain cancer.”

The ‘Red & Blue All November Through’ campaign saw the entire industry in NSW get involved. During November, each time a race on all NSW tracks was won by a dog wearing the red (number 1) or blue (number 4) rugs, GRNSW donated $161 dollars to the MHF. The red and blue represented the colours of the Newcastle Knights, while the 161 signified the number of NRL games Mark Hughes played during his career.

The campaign will run again in November in 2026.

“It’s an honour for GRNSW and all in our industry to be able to partner with and support the Mark Hughes Foundation in a small way to help raise awareness and funds to fight this insidious disease,” GRNSW Acting Chief Executive Officer Brian Charman said.

“I have heard from many participants across the sport who felt that partnering with the Mark Hughes Foundation was a rewarding experience and certainly opened a lot of eyes about the fight against brain cancer.

“As well as November’s Red & Blue campaign, funds were raised at our Calcutta and Sports’ Luncheon events, we were able to help with donations from the sale of beanies during the Beanies for Brain Cancer week, individual clubs and participants personally donated, and we also were able to donate $10,000 from the auction of the winning post at the final Dapto race meeting last September.

“Our objective when entering the partnership with the MHF was to in some small way contribute financially but also to help bring the battle against brain cancer to the attention of many more people around NSW. Hopefully that was achieved.

“We will be looking to better our contribution both financially and from an awareness perspective in 2026.”

To coincide with May being Brain Cancer Awareness Month, the MHF are about to launch the brand-new 2026 MHF beanies.

The beanies go on sale on May 27 and this year feature new colours of Watermelon Crush and a Khaki Combo beanie.
