Inquiry into postal services calls for submissions
House of Representatives
The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications, the Arts and Sport is inquiring into the sustainability and accessibility of postal services across Australia.
Chair of the Committee, Ms Susan Templeman MP, said postal services are essential to communities, businesses and households across the country.
‘Postal services play a vital role in connecting Australians and supporting communities, particularly in regional and remote areas,’ Ms Templeman said.
‘This inquiry will examine how changing consumer behaviour is affecting Australia Post and the broader postal sector, and consider how it can remain sustainable, accessible and responsive to the needs of Australians.’
The inquiry will consider the impact of declining letter volumes, growing parcel delivery demands, competition in the delivery market, the role of post offices in local communities, and opportunities to improve services for consumers and businesses.
‘Australia Post is operating in a rapidly changing environment, with Australians relying on it in different ways than they did in the past. This inquiry provides an opportunity to hear directly from communities, workers and businesses about how postal services can continue to meet Australians’ needs into the future,’ Ms Templeman said.
The Committee welcomes a range of perspectives, including from regional communities, consumers, postal workers, licensed post offices, small and medium-sized businesses, private parcel operators and courier companies.
The Committee invites submissions by 5.00pm (Canberra time) on Monday, 7 December 2026.
Further information, including the terms of reference and how to contribute, is available on the inquiry website.
