The app that turned running into a real-world territory game expands to cyclists for the first time, backed by 2.5 million-plus downloads across 182 countries

[MELBOURNE; July 13th, 2026] - Melbourne-founded fitness app INTVL launched Bike Mode, opened its real-world territory game to cyclists for the first time as it accelerates its international expansion and continues to grow its presence in the United States.

Launched globally on Thursday 9th July, Bike Mode is INTVL's biggest product expansion since launch and marks the company's first move beyond running, allowing road, gravel, commuter and casual cyclists to compete for territory in the same live location-based game that has attracted runners across the world.

Since launching, INTVL has grown to more than 2.5 million downloads across 182 countries capturing more than 3.5 million territories - all before expanding beyond running.

Despite being founded in Melbourne, INTVL has found its biggest audience overseas, with the United States now accounting for 46 per cent of users, more than three times Australia's share (13.5 per cent).

INTVL transforms everyday movement into a live strategy game. Every run, walk or ride claims real-world territory on an interactive map, with players defending their ground or stealing it back by moving through the same streets and trails. Because territory can be carved up in countless ways, the competition is always evolving. Clubs, leaderboards and social features allow players to compete individually or as teams.

Unlike traditional fitness apps, INTVL isn't about being the fastest. Anyone who gets outside and records an activity is part of the game, reflecting founders Louis Phillips and Jordan Hesse's belief that exercise should feel rewarding, social and fun rather than another task to tick off.

"We built INTVL because exercise shouldn't feel like another thing on your to-do list - it should feel like a game you can't wait to play," said Louis Phillips, Co-Founder and CEO of INTVL.

"Launching Bike Mode is something we've wanted to do for a long time. Cycling has such a passionate global community, and we're excited to see riders competing for territory on two wheels."

Before co-founding INTVL, Phillips built a running community of more than 213,000 followers on Instagram. Together with Jordan Hesse, he transformed that passion into a gamified fitness platform now used by millions of people worldwide.

Bike Mode is free to use and works with Garmin, Wahoo, Hammerhead and COROS bike computers, as well as Apple Watch, Garmin, Polar, COROS and Suunto sports watches. Users can also record rides directly in the INTVL app. Running and walking remain fully available, with cyclists and runners competing on separate maps.

Players remain in control of their privacy, with public, friends-only and private profile options available, alongside an anonymous mode. Real-time locations are never broadcast publicly.

Bike Mode launches worldwide at 10:30am Pacific Time / 3:30am AEST on Thursday 9 July. INTVL is available now as a free download on iOS and Android.
