Student learning progress data at school level for NAPLAN 2025 results
Encouraging improvements in student attendance
Parents, carers and wider school communities can now access the latest information on schools in their area on the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) My School website, which has been updated with 2025 NAPLAN data and other school-level information.
The 2025 update includes data on student progress, which shows how much the same students at the same school have improved since their previous NAPLAN assessment 2 years ago. This information helps clearly demonstrate the progress of students’ learning over the years at all Australian schools.
Alongside the 2023–25 student progress data for schools, the December 2025 My School update also includes:
- 2025 NAPLAN results for schools
- 2025 school profile and enrolment data
- 2025 school attendance data for Semester 1
- 2024 school financial information, including recurrent funding and capital expenditure
- 2024 vocational education training participation and outcomes
- 2024 Year 12 certifications.
Both ACARA’s My School website and the latest National Report on Schooling data portal update, also released today, show an increase in student attendance during Semester 1 2025 (Terms 1 and 2).
Overall, the national attendance rate was 88.8% (up slightly from 88.3%) and the national attendance level – the proportion of students in Years 1–10 whose attendance rate is equal to or greater than 90% – was 62.1% (up from 59.4%).
“ACARA’s My School website provides parents, carers and the community with clear and transparent data on Australia’s schools,” said ACARA’s CEO, Stephen Gniel.
“The return of information on student progress, following improvements to NAPLAN including assessments and results being available earlier in the year, shows how much the same students at the same school have improved since their previous NAPLAN assessments.
“Student progress data provides the information to celebrate improvement in a fairer way that considers the individual circumstances of a school, as well as to better identify areas for renewed or continued focus.
“With detailed information on every school in the country, ACARA’s My School is the only website that publishes nationally consistent, school-level data that all Australians can see for free.
“Providing the Australian community with information on school education through ACARA’s My School website is complemented by the National Report on Schooling. Encouragingly, this is showing student attendance heading in the right direction while also reinforcing the need for continued focus and prioritisation.
“The full range of data on ACARA’s My School website helps school leaders, teachers, parents and carers understand the full value and quality of a school. This includes NAPLAN results within the broader context in which each school operates, such as its socio-educational advantage,” Mr Gniel said.

Background
My School’s Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage (ICSEA) indicates the average educational advantage of each school’s students. It is calculated using information about parents’/carers’ occupations and education, school geographical location and the proportion of First Nations Australian students. A school’s ICSEA value is provided to encourage taking socio-educational advantage into account when comparing school achievement.
Student progress measures on ACARA’s My School website show how much NAPLAN results at the selected school have improved since the students did NAPLAN 2 years ago (that is, Year 3 to Year 5, Year 5 to 7, or Year 7 to Year 9).
It shows the percentage of students at the school whose progress was better than expected, considering the school’s average score 2 years ago and its level of community socio-educational advantage (SEA).
On a school’s student progress page, you can compare this progress with the amount of improvement achieved by other students:
- with the same starting score and similar backgrounds
- across all Australian schools.
