CAPALABA, Queensland, Australia – Lucas Barker officially opened his new Minuteman Press franchise in Capalaba, Queensland after purchasing longtime independent printing company Bayside Print Solutions in January 2026. The business has served the local community for 25 years and now enters a new chapter under the Minuteman Press brand.

Lucas brings more than 25 years of experience in the printing industry to his new role as business owner. Prior to purchasing the business, he worked for Minuteman Press International as a Field Representative for eleven years. Before that, he gained additional experience working for another print franchise and a large international exhibition displays company. Throughout his career, Lucas has built expertise in production, design, account management, production management, and sales.

Buying the Business

Reflecting on his decision to buy the business, Lucas says, “For eleven years, I saw up close and personal how strong the Minuteman Press business model is and watched it work repeatedly for franchise owners. Trading under the Minuteman Press banner opens doors to better buying power from vendors and relationships that many independents do not have access to.”

I have been very active with a local BNI group, which has been very beneficial to the business. Lucas has also dedicated significant effort to modernising and branding the centre, and he says customers have responded positively to the changes. Regarding training and support, Lucas says, “The training I received from MPIHQ gave me a well-rounded skillset along with a focused structure to work with. Pete and Tom in the MPIHQ Training Department do a fantastic job, and it was amazing to see how far the owner training had come since I completed it eleven years earlier.”

Community Dream Come True

Owning a business in Capalaba has long been a personal goal for Lucas, and he says he is excited about continuing to grow his local presence. “I have always wanted to own a business in Capalaba, and every week I am increasing my reach and influence within the community. Having experienced staff and strong equipment capabilities means I rarely have to say no to a project. If I can’t do it immediately, I still say yes and figure it out.”

He adds, “The apparel side of the business is beginning to grow, which is a new service for the store. We are also producing several large mailings every month, which creates opportunities for work across other areas of the business.”
