In a global first, award-winning tapestry artist, Maryanne Moodie, has had her works verified by Proudly Human as human-created. This verification highlights the personal effort that Maryanne invests in her work and celebrates the unique provenance of her tapestries.

Proudly Human, the independent certifier of human-created works, worked closely with Maryanne to ensure the process was rigorous and practical. The verification and certification gives audiences confidence in its human creation.

One of Maryanne’s award-winning works, Wildflowers, has been acquired by Dr Alan Finkel and is on display in the Proudly Human office in Melbourne, Australia.

“I founded Proudly Human with the goal of protecting human creativity,” said Dr Alan Finkel. “This was the first time that we have verified a tapestry.  The partnership with Maryanne to verify her tapestry as human-created was a natural fit since both of us are committed to the need to take urgent action for the creative arts.  I am absolutely sure that the depth and meaning behind this tapestry, which I have the joy of walking past each day, could not have been created by AI.”

According to Maryanne Moodie, “the work I make is slow because meaning takes time. In a world where AI can generate images in seconds, human-made is personal, which audiences want and respect.  The Proudly Human verification is the answer to this critical and time-sensitive issue for the creative arts.”

Maryanne is the latest creator to join the Proudly Human movement.

About Proudly Human

Proudly Human is the international certification organization that verifies and labels human-created content, services and products. It ensures that all people can exercise their right to choose human-created work. Similar in spirit to organic or Fairtrade certification in other industries, it enables people to make informed choices and gives creative people the recognition they deserve.

Provenance is important. Creators are proud of what they produce, human beings care about the origin of what they consume, and human creativity should be celebrated.

About Wildflowers

Wildflowers was named a finalist in the Bay of Fires Art Prize 2026

This work was created during a time of prolonged stress, trauma and pain within my family. It became a way of holding grief and hope at the same time.

The piece was inspired by desert landscapes after rain. After long periods of drought and harsh conditions, the desert suddenly erupts into colour and wildflowers. A reminder that resilience can quietly exist beneath the surface long before beauty becomes visible.

Woven from reclaimed silk, wool and cotton fibres, the work traces emotional terrain through texture, colour and shifting form. Like country healing after drought, it speaks to survival, renewal and the possibility of growth after difficult seasons.
