***MEDIA ALERT*** 

Mental health workers across public hospitals and Forensicare will walk off the job today, with a march on Parliament House.

A striking banner reading “772 Too Many” - referencing the number of Victorians lost to suicide last year - will lead the march. Outside Parliament, a drummer will beat a drum 772 times to mark each life lost.

Event Details:
11:00am – Workers gather at Victorian Trades Hall
11:35am – March departs for Parliament House
12:05pm – Rally arrives at Parliament steps
12:35pm – Drumming ceremony begins (772 beats)

 

COMMENT

HACSU State Secretary Paul Healey said: “Mental health workers have had it. It is clear that

this government does not value the critical work they do and have no real appetite for reforming the system. Our members will not stop fighting for each other, consumers and their families to deliver an equitable system for all. The government needs to stop trying to split our workforces with disrespectful offers or they'll face a reckoning”.
