Parliamentary Friends of Nursing 2024 – A Showcase of Modern Nursing

Nursing and midwifery leaders from around the country will gather in the Mural Hall at Parliament House in Canberra tomorrow, Tuesday 19 November 2024, for the biggest-ever Parliamentary Friends of Nursing event.

Convened by the Assistant Minister for Health Ged Kearney, the Assistant Shadow Minister for Regional Health Dr Anne Webster, and the Independent Member for Indi Dr Helen Haines, the event this year is a Showcase of Modern Nursing.

The event runs from 8.00am until 12pm, with official welcome and speeches from 8.30am.

MPs, Senators, their staff, and others who work in Parliament House will be able to visit 16 interactive stalls/exhibits to witness first-hand quality nurse-led health care and receive health assessments including:

• Skin cancer screening
• Mental health assessments
• Portable echocardiological technology – heart tests
• Ear wax removal
• Preventive health checks
• Nurse-led street health services for the vulnerable
• Paediatric Advanced Life Support
• Drug and Alcohol Nursing – information on safe alcohol consumption
• The latest CPR training
• Birth and Neonatal mannequin
• Research

Founded by the Australian College of Nursing (ACN), this year’s Parliamentary Friends of Nursing event is being staged jointly by nine of the largest nursing and midwifery peaks in Australia – ACN, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF), the Australian Primary Care Nurses Association (APNA), the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP), the Congress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Nurses and Midwives (CATSINaM), the Australian College of Midwives (ACM), the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses (ACMHN), the Council of Remote Area Nurses of Australia (CRANAplus), and the Council of Deans of Nursing and Midwifery (CDNM).
