MEDIA ALERT - UNITED PARTNERSHIP FOR SAFER SHOPPING SPACES

WHAT:
Crime Stoppers Australia (CSA) and the Shopping Centre Council of Australia (SCCA) will today officially launch a nationwide partnership campaign to encourage Australians to share information about crime and suspicious activity in and around retail precincts.

For the first time, Crime Stoppers messages will appear on more than 2,000 digital screens across shopping centres nationwide – ensuring millions of people are reminded that sharing information can be done safely and anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

WHY IT MATTERS:

  • Retail crime and antisocial behaviour cost businesses more than $9 billion annually.
  • Crime Stoppers received over 377,000 phone and web contacts in 2024, leading to more than 3,000 apprehensions and 9,000 charges.
  • This is a national first partnership, focussing on shopping centres as community hubs to encourage people to share information anonymously about suspicious behaviour and unsolved crime.
