Thousands of Australians under 65 with life-limiting illness are missing out on basic support to die at home.

Each year, an estimated 5,000–10,000 people fall between the NDIS, aged care and health systems, with no clear pathway to access essential home support such as personal care, domestic assistance and social support.

As a result, people are forced into hospital or residential care, not because they need to be there, but because the system cannot support them at home.

Palliative Care Australia (PCA), with Parliamentary Friends of Palliative Care co-convenors Senator Kerrynne Liddle and Senator Raff Ciccone, will bring a national coalition of advocates, clinicians and people with lived experience to Parliament House to highlight the issue and call for urgent reform.

Media opportunities

Press gallery members are welcome. Interviews will be available with sector leaders, clinicians and people with lived experience, offering insight into the policy and system gaps, and what needs to change to ensure younger Australians can access safe, coordinated end-of-life care at home.
