Queensland’s love affair with Cirque du Soleil continues with the first shows of KOOZA packing the famous big top over the weekend, before the purple carpet is rolled out tomorrow/Thursday for the official Brisbane premiere, where 2500 people will fill the iconic BIG TOP.

 

AND A GLORIOUS FUN FACT – Queenslander Mitch Wynter from the Gold Coast stars at The Trickster, one of the main characters.

Since its world premiere in 2007, KOOZA has mesmerised more than 10 million people through more than 5,500 performances across 87 cities and 23 countries. One of Cirque du Soleil’s most daring touring productions, KOOZA returns to the company’s origins, combining breathtaking acrobatics with the timeless art of clowning. A “circus in a box” bursting with colour, comedy, thrills and heart, KOOZA explores identity, fear, recognition and power through a spectacular world where anything feels possible.

 

KOOZA FUN FACTS

  • KOOZA premiered in April 2007 in Montréal and is Cirque du Soleil’s 20th original touring production since its creation in 1984.
  • The name KOOZA comes from the Sanskrit word “koza,” meaning “box” or “treasure,” symbolising the concept of a “circus in a box.”
  • The show features an international cast of 53 artists from 19 different nationalities, including six live musicians and two singers performing at every show.
  • The KOOZA Big Top seats 2,500 people, stands 56 feet high and spans 164 feet in diameter.
  • It takes seven days to set up and three days to dismantle the site, which covers 17,000 square metres (4.2 acres).
  • There are more than 175 costumes and 160 hats featured in KOOZA, over 1,200 handcrafted costume pieces designed in Cirque du Soleil’s Montréal workshop.
  • One army costume includes 400 individually sewn metallic flaps to create the illusion of armour
  • KOOZA travels with a touring team of more than 120 people, supported by two performance medicine specialists and a full kitchen serving two meals a day to 200 cast, crew and staff.
  • The show’s soundtrack blends 1970s funk, orchestral arrangements and traditional Indian music, all performed live each night.
  • KOOZA is the 11th Big Top show to visit Australia in 26 years.
