MEDIA RELEASE: Illawarra Child Safe Sport Roadshow
NSW Office of Sport
3 November 2026
Play your part in keeping children safe in sport
The NSW Office of Sport and Wollongong City Council will host a series of interactive child safety workshops in the Illawarra next week to help local sporting organisations keep children safe from harm and abuse in sport.
The workshops will provide practical information on the simple steps sports clubs can take to protect children in relation to de-escalation of challenging behaviour, managing child safety risks and the implementation of Child Safe Standards.
The workshops will be held at Wollongong, Dapto and Woonona from 10-12 November and will be delivered by the Office of Sport and the Office of the Children’s Guardian.

Office of Sport Deputy Secretary Adam Berry said:
“Sport brings communities across NSW together and we want to ensure that everyone who participates is safe.
“The workshops will outline common risks to children in community sport and ways to avoid placing participants in risky situations.
“The workshops will be invaluable to sporting organisations, helping them to better identify and manage child safety risks and ensure that sport in the region is a positive experience for everyone.
“We look forward to working with representatives from sporting organisations in the Illawarra at these workshops.”
