Media Release: Promoting fair, safe, respectful creative workplaces for all

Creative Australia

The Creative Workplaces website is now live - a national resource hub designed to support fair, safe and respectful workplaces across Australia’s arts and culture sector.

The website, launched today by the Australian Government, with support from state and territory governments, is the first step in addressing long-standing issues around pay, safety, respect, and workplace culture in the sector.

An initiative of the Australian Government’s National Cultural Policy Revive Creative Workplaces was established within Creative Australia to promote fair, safe and respectful workplaces for artists, arts workers and arts organisations.

Creative Workplaces Council Chair Kate Jenkins AO said:

“This is the first major step in a long-term commitment to improve workplace knowledge, culture and capability across the sector. The website is a practical resource for everyone working in the creative industries – whether working as an independent, employed, volunteering, or running an organisation – with information and tools to build fair, safe and respectful workplaces. This is just the beginning, and we will continue to expand the website and develop new resources in collaboration with the sector.”

The new website is a plain-language hub featuring:

  • Information on pay, working conditions, safety and respectful behaviour
  • ‘In practice’ examples showing relatable sector scenarios
  • Referral pathways to external services for further support
  • A central library of existing tools, resources and support from across the creative industries
