Meet the superstar chefs helping put the Scenic Rim on Australia’s culinary map
They’re some of Queensland’s most celebrated chefs, and every year, they donate their time, talent and passion to help champion one extraordinary region.
The Scenic Rim’s 12 Food Ambassadors have become one of the driving forces behind the success of Scenic Rim Eat Local Month. Importantly, they do it because they believe in the region.
They are Brenda Fawdon (Picnic Real Food Bar), Caz Osborne (Scenic Rim Cooking Classes, and in her first year), Cameron Matthews (Mapleton Public House), Caroline Jones (Three Girls Skipping), Daniel Groneberg (Kooroomba Vineyard and Restaurant), Glen Barratt (In Pursuit of Pastry), Jack Stuart (Blume Restaurant), Jake Nicolson (Ghanem Group, and in his first year), Javier Codina (Moda Steak. Tapas. Seasons), Josh Lopez (Lopez at Home), Olivier Boudon (Roastbeef and The Frog) and Richard Ousby (Cru Bar & Sixes and Sevens). Imagery here
There are no celebrity appearance fees or commercial endorsements behind the program. Instead, these chefs and hospitality leaders choose to support the region and Eat Local Month because they genuinely care about local farmers, producers, growers and the future of regional food tourism.
That support has helped transform the Scenic Rim into one of Australia’s leading paddock-to-plate destinations.
During Eat Local Month, visitors have the opportunity to experience that passion firsthand. Several ambassador-led events have already sold out, including Hidden Harvest with Caz Osborne, the Three Girls Skipping Lunch with Caroline Jones and the Winter Harvest Dinner with Daniel Groneberg, proving the appetite for authentic paddock-to-plate experiences continues to grow.
Other experiences still have limited tickets remaining, including the Scenic Rim Food Ambassador Long Lunch at Moda, the Beef & Beer Masterclass at Commercial Hotel Boonah, Cocktails, Cuisine & Country at Fox Hill Grove and the hugely popular Winter Harvest Festival in Kalbar.
Reflecting on being the first ever Regional Ambassador Chef, Josh Lopez said it was more important than ever to support our local farmers and to experience what the Scenic Rim producers showcase.
“I have always believed food grown locally not only tastes better but it’s also about the stories, connection to land and legacy we support. Over the past 15 years it’s been my immense privilege to celebrate what these amazing Australians produce in our renowned food bowl, the Scenic Rim. Seeing what they do, how they do it and the heart they put into this, makes working with their produce all the more important.”
“This is a month for anyone who believes the best meals come with a story, and maybe a little dirt under the nails. So pack your appetite and sense of adventure, this is as local as it gets,” he said.
Fellow Chef Ambassador Javier Codina from MODA Restaurant said, “Supporting local producers is a year-round commitment, it also means being flexible with seasonality, and willing to take what produce is available. Yes it can be a compromise, but that’s what it means to truly eat local produce and support local farmers,” he said.
“It’s an honour to work alongside the farmers of the Scenic Rim, and whatever we can do to shine the culinary light on their produce, we will.”
From paddock to plate, these ambassadors are helping tell the story of the Scenic Rim one delicious bite at a time — and in doing so, helping ensure local farmers, producers and regional communities remain at the heart of Queensland’s food future.
Across 153 events, this year’s Eat Local Month features 42 On Farm Adventures, 40 Lunches and Dinners (think: mountaintops, paddocks, long tables, intimate tastings), 48 Family Friendly events and 62 Workshops and Experiences. It’s a flavour-packed love letter to the people, produce, and paddocks of the region.
Scenic Rim Eat Local Month is proudly presented by Scenic Rim Regional Council, with support from major partners Moffatt Fresh Produce and CamperMate, and supporting partners Urban Utilities, Kalfresh Vegetables, Community Bank Kalbar and District, Brisbane Economic Development Agency, Allclass Kubota, and 612 ABC Radio Brisbane. The event is also supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland's (Homegrown) Destination Events Program.
