A new study from UCLA (March 2025) revealed that chewing gum can release hundreds of microplastics directly into saliva, with some varieties shedding more than 600 particles per gram. This builds on earlier research published in Environment International in 2022, which detected microplastics in the bloodstream of nearly 80 percent of participants.
