Monash Expert: Bill Shorten to resign from parliament
Former Labor leader and current NDIS minister Bill Shorten has today announced his retirement from parliament, after almost two decades in federal parliament. A Monash expert is available to discuss his legacy and what his retirement will mean for the Albanese Government.

“Bill Shorten's resignation will leave a big hole in the Albanese Government. Mr Shorten has decades of political experience which was developed through student politics and his time in the national parliament since 2007.
“Highlights of Mr Shorten's career will include his elevation to party leader from 2013 to 2019, as well as his role in driving the National Disability Insurance Scheme as the responsible minister. An overview of his career would be incomplete without acknowledging the shock loss of Labor in 2019. Public expectations, and the indications of opinion polls, suggested that Bill Shorten was on track to become prime minister at the 2019 election. The Coalition was able to retain government and denied Mr Shorten winning the hightest public office in the country.”
